The Czech Republic - Fine Art Photography Prints

Artistic photographs that I took in my homeland - the Czech Republic. These are mainly landscape photographs but also photographs from the urban environment, especially from Prague. Because most of my photos were taken in Czechia, I have not included all of them in this category. Especially various close-ups or portraits.

I sell my photographic prints through Fine Art America, which guarantees high-quality prints, a large variety of frames, a money-back guarantee as well as worldwide shipping.

What does the Czech landscape look like?

The Czech Republic is quite a small country with no sea or mountains, so it might seem that there is nothing very interesting for a landscape and nature photographer. Fortunately, the Czech Republic is a country with beautiful, picturesque, and diverse landscapes.

Mountains on the border

Almost all around the border of the country, there are beautiful mountains. Although their height does not exceed 2000m above sea level, they are wild and beautiful. Among the most famous are the Giant Mountains, Šumava, the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory), and the Jeseníky Mountains.

Lakes and rivers

The Czech Republic is a country of ponds, most of them in South Bohemia but also in the rest of the country there is at least a small pond in almost every village. My favorite lakes are Lipno in Šumava, Nové mlýny in South Moravia, and the interesting lakes in North Bohemia, which are gradually formed by flooding brown coal quarries. Among the rivers, I will mention the beautiful rivers Vltava, Morava, Dyje, Ohře, Sázava, and Berunka

Czech towns, castles, and chateaux

What makes the Czech Republic such a beautiful country, so popular with tourists and photographers, are its historic towns, castles, and chateaus. And that doesn’t just mean Prague, which is beautiful, but there are many other places worth visiting. For example, Olomouc, Ostrava, Český krumlov, Karlštejn, Brno, Třeboň, Kroměříž or Plzeň.

Unique locations

In the Czech Republic, you will also find a number of locations that are so unique that, as far as I know, you will not find them anywhere else in the world. Let’s take a look at the most beautiful ones:

1. South Moravia – Vineyards and unique nature

Although South Moravia is known for its beautiful vineyards, there is so much more to see (and photograph). In the area around the town of Mikulov, it is especially the Pálava Protected Landscape Area and the Pálava Hills, which, although they do not reach a high altitude (Děvín 549 m above sea level), rise monumentally above the surrounding lowlands and form a natural landmark of South Moravia. Just below the Pálava Hills is the Nové Mlýny reservoir – a shallow lake with old trees sticking out of it in several places, or a small island with a church, just the perfect place for photographers. The most important archaeological site in the Czech Republic – Dolní Věstonice or the Lednice-Valtice area is also worth a visit.

2. Moravian Tuscany

East of Brno lies a unique area that has become popular with photographers from all over the world in recent years. It is a unique undulating landscape with meadows, fields, solitary trees, and small chapels.

3. South Bohemian fishing ponds

The area around the town of Třeboň is literally dotted with many small and large fishing ponds. The oldest of them dates back to the 12th century. If you take pictures with a drone, you can get absolutely unique images here.

4. Extinct volcanoes in the Central Bohemian Uplands

The Central Bohemian Uplands region is perhaps my favorite. There are beautiful conical hills rising out of the lowlands, some forested, others bare with a steppe climate. It is an ideal place for taking minimalist landscape photographs.

5. Rock towns

There are several areas in the Czech Republic where you can find rock towns – narrow and tens of meters high rock columns. Among the most famous is the area around the Hrubá skála Castle, the Prachovské skály (Prachov Rocks), or vast Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland.

6. Unique cottages on the Sázava River

The last unique place is a large area along the Sázava River, where you will find many small cottages, some of them standing on rocks that are perhaps impossible to climb. The architectural style of these huts is absolutely unique. The huts were built by the people themselves during the communist period. Since there was not much building material available then, people built them from what they had left or what they “borrowed” at work.
