This black-and-white photograph captures a bare tree on the bank of the Elbe river, near the Central Bohemian town of Čelákovice. There is something slightly abstract and mysterious about it — the kind of scene that feels more like a mood than a place.
The image was created using an in-camera multiple exposure technique — ten exposures combined into a single frame, shot handheld. Each previous exposure appears as a semi-transparent layer in the viewfinder, allowing me to deliberately shape the final composition as it builds.
Some might argue that the same effect can be achieved by layering images in post-production. But I believe that creating a multiple exposure in-camera — and doing so handheld rather than from a tripod — introduces subtle imperfections and variations that make each photograph truly unique. The imperceptible shifts in position and perspective between exposures create an organic quality that is difficult to replicate artificially.
