This black-and-white photograph was taken on the same morning and at the same location as Moody Abstract Tree by the River — on the banks of the Elbe near Čelákovice, in December 2025. Where that image focuses on a single tree, this one steps back and lets the river take over.
The water runs straight into the fog and disappears. Bare willows line both banks, softening into grey as they recede. The large tree on the right anchors the frame, its tangled branches pressing into a flat, overcast sky.
The image was created using an in-camera multiple exposure technique — ten exposures combined into a single frame, shot handheld. The slight shifts between exposures give the trees and water an organic softness that a single exposure wouldn’t produce — less like a record of the scene, more like a memory of it.
There is nothing dramatic here. Just a quiet river, a foggy morning, and the particular stillness that comes when winter has emptied a landscape of almost everything.
