I found this place while browsing online maps — a lake with two towers reflected in still water. There was almost nothing about it online. A single photograph, nothing more.
It turned out to be a fly ash disposal site for the Počerady coal power plant in northern Bohemia. Not a natural lake at all.
I drove out one day and parked near the edge of the site. What started as an ordinary North Bohemian meadow gradually gave way to a barren landscape covered in black dust. I walked around the lake looking for the composition I had already worked out in my head. When I found the right spot, I noticed a large dead wild boar lying nearby. It felt like it belonged there.
I set up a tripod and made a 20-second exposure. The long shutter turns the surface of the water — slightly rippled by wind — into something smooth and dreamlike, which is exactly what I was after.
The photograph was taken with a Nikon Z7 at 24mm, f/7.1, ISO 64.
