I’m Martin Vorel, a photographer from Prague, Czech Republic, and I’ve been fascinated by photography since my childhood. In 2013, I founded Libreshot.com, where I share my photos for free and see them used in various creative projects. This experience fuelled my passion for artistic photography, especially minimalist and abstract styles.
My work is known for its clean, precise and straightforward aesthetic. I focus on minimalist photography of nature, plants and landscapes, often using camera movement techniques to capture dynamic, energetic images. Inspired by photographers such as Michael Kenna and Karl Blossfeldt, I aim to reveal the essence of my subjects with excellent clarity and detail, using Nikon and Tamron equipment.

Artistic Process and Techniques
Nature is an endless source of inspiration, creating the most beautiful patterns and shapes imaginable. My photographs aim to capture this natural artistry, showing the essence of landscapes, plants and other subjects in their purest form.
Exploration and Discovery
When I go out into the countryside to take photographs, I often walk for miles without taking a single picture. Suddenly, if I’m lucky, I’ll spot a special spot – a meadow, a patch of woodland or just a lone tree. I spend hours exploring the area, looking for the perfect subject. Most of the time I shoot on location, but occasionally I’ll pick up a dried flower or plant and photograph it at home in my improvised studio. This approach allows me to find most of my ‘catches’ in autumn and winter, when the stark beauty of dry plants is most evident.
Equipment and Techniques
I use a Nikon digital camera with a full-frame sensor, paired with different lenses to achieve different effects. I often use a macro lens for detailed shots, a telephoto lens for minimalist landscape photography and a standard 50mm lens for versatility. I particularly enjoy photographing plants in winter, especially in snowy landscapes where their beautiful shapes stand out against the white background.
I spend a lot of time preparing before I even pick up my camera. I study maps and articles, looking for the best angles and lighting conditions. I often return to the same locations several times to get the perfect shot. This dedication to preparation ensures that each photograph tells a story and evokes a sense of tranquillity and contemplation.
Studio Work
In addition to outdoor photography, I also work in my home studio, particularly for botanical minimalist photography. This controlled environment allows me to experiment with different compositions and lighting setups, resulting in clean, precise images that highlight the natural beauty of my subjects.
Global Influences
Living in the Czech Republic, I am fortunate to have access to the picturesque Czech countryside, which features prominently in my work. However, my photographic journey has also taken me to neighbouring European countries, as well as more distant places such as Mongolia and Egypt. These diverse environments provide a rich tapestry of inspiration, allowing me to capture the universal beauty of nature in its many forms.
