Mountain in winter fog
The photograph is a minimalist portrait of one of the most famous peaks in the Ortler Alps. Taken during a family ski trip to Solden (Solda), Italy, the black and white image captures the dramatic interplay between the mountain and the surrounding clouds at an altitude of over 3,000 metres.
The film focuses on the imposing Königspitze (Gran Zebrù in Italian), the second highest peak in the Ortler Alps, which rises to 3,851 metres above sea level. Located on the border between South Tyrol and Lombardy, it forms part of a majestic triumvirate with Monte Zebra and Ortler.
The overcast weather proved ideal for photography, creating a dramatic atmosphere with parts of the mountain emerging from and disappearing into the mist.
The monochrome processing emphasises the sharp contrast between the snow-covered slopes and the dark, exposed rock faces. The high resolution (8256 × 5504 pixels) captures every crevice, ridge and cliff in exceptional detail. Taken with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens at a focal length of 50mm, the image balances technical precision with artistic vision.
Available through FineArtAmerica as a premium fine art print on a variety of materials, this photograph brings the serenity and majesty of the Italian Alps to any room, inviting contemplation of nature’s grandeur and serene beauty.
