Story Behind the Photo
I took this photo during my time as a tour guide in Mongolia when I stopped to visit the ruins of Ongiin Monastery. Fortunately, the river that normally separates the two parts of the Ongiin Monastery ruins was dry, allowing me to cross and explore an area not normally accessible to the public. As I walked through the desert, I was struck by the sight of this lone tree standing amidst the vast emptiness. Its presence was a testament to the enduring power of nature, and I knew I had to capture its beauty on camera.
