This photograph does not try to show what the mountains look like. It tries to show what they feel like.
Yolin Am is a dramatic canyon hidden inside the Gobi Desert — a place where silence is heavy and the rock walls press in from every side. I have been coming to Mongolia for many years as a tour guide, and Yolin Am is one of those places that never quite lets you go.
The image was created using in-camera multiple exposure: I selected the composition, focused, and then fired ten consecutive frames handheld. Each shot shifts slightly — the camera breathes, the hands move — and the final image is a layered accumulation of all ten moments compressed into one.
The result sits somewhere between photography and drawing. The mountains are still recognizable, but they vibrate, as if seen through heat, memory, or the particular kind of attention that comes from standing somewhere very old and very quiet.
This print works in spaces where stillness matters — alongside natural materials, in rooms that favour texture over colour, or anywhere a landscape is expected to do more than decorate.
