This photograph was created using an in-camera multiple exposure technique. Several exposures of a grapevine stem were layered directly in the camera during shooting and merged into a single file — not assembled later in postproduction.
Where the previous multiple exposures in this series record rhythm or flow, this one captures tension and release. On the left, the lines compress into a dense, tightly wound knot. Then they arc across the frame and arrive on the right as something fraying, scattering, almost mid-explosion. The same stem, the same exposures — but the movement between them tells a story.
The image was shot handheld, without a tripod. The slight imperfections between exposures are what give the lines their energy — a tripod would have made it static, mechanical. Here, the hand is part of the work.
Printed in black and white, the photograph reduces everything to a single gesture: something wound tight, then let go.
