Old industrial sites, factories, chimneys, ironmongers, and other industrial buildings have their magic. They are places where you like to go for a walk but besides whom you do not want to live 🙂

Industrial buildings are amazing due to their monumentality, austerity, and purposeful design. I prefer abandoned areas, where I have plenty of time to think about what I want to photograph.

These four chimneys of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant in the Czech Republic I photographed on one of our family holidays. We slept in the camp near the power station and right from the camp there was this beautiful view.

In postproduction, I’ve pretty much modified the photo with the Photoshop Silver Efex Pro 2 plug-in, which is great for converting photos to black and white.

Another photo of the chimneys I photographed in the old ironworks in the town of Kladno in the Central Bohemia Region. This industrial site, known as “Poldi” or “Poldovka”, has been abandoned and desolate since the 1990s. It is therefore a very popular place for urbexers. There are a number of huge buildings that can be walked freely. Unfortunately, the site was bought by a new owner who probably will soon demolish old buildings.

I photographed these two chimneys in the amazing and preserved steelworks complex in Ostrava in the Czech Republic. The entire industrial complex has been declared a protected monument and fortunately, there is no danger of demolition. If you ever arrive in the Czech Republic and you like industrial sites, you should visit the place called “Dolní Vítkovice Region”. You will not be disappointed 🙂
