This photograph was taken in the late afternoon at Iriqui National Park near Zagora, Morocco — within the same hour as several other images from this desert visit, when the low sun was turning every ripple and ridge into high contrast. While the previous frame looked at the dune as a whole, this one moves closer and looks down.
The wind-carved ripples fill the lower two-thirds of the frame in dense, irregular lines — not quite parallel, not quite straight, the way handwriting looks when you zoom out far enough to lose the letters. Above them, a curved shadow cuts diagonally across the composition, and beyond that edge, smooth shadow swallows the upper left entirely.
Shot at f/14 to keep the ripple texture sharp from foreground to the dune’s crest, the image holds detail across the full frame. In black and white, sand loses its warmth and becomes something harder — closer to stone, or paper, or skin.
This print pairs naturally with the other images from this desert session, but works equally well alone. It suits spaces where texture matters — raw plaster, linen, wood, concrete.
