I took this photo in the town of Makarska on the coast of Croatia. Although my family and I went there by train and bus, I took almost all my photographic equipment with me. I had invented two photos that I want to take. The first was a long exposure of the sea using an ND filter and the second just silhouettes. I hoped to make time a few times and go take pictures in the afternoon after swimming with the children. In the end, I managed about five times in 14 days. I found a concrete jetty with a beautiful view of the opposite cliffs. I sensed that this was a great opportunity for silhouette photography.
On the rock, silhouettes of people who went for a walk together with fishermen who fished here sometimes appeared.
I placed a tripod on the stone breakwaters at the pier and waited for the perfect composition. I’ve been waiting a few days for the right time for the photo you see. And the wait, I think, paid off. The fisherman was not hidden behind a cliff (as almost always before), a young couple appeared on the rock and the evening sun was already low over the horizon.
Everything came together great, so all I had to do was take pictures. I used a Nikon D7100 camera with a Tamron 70-300mm lens, which I set to 210mm. I set the aperture to f / 14, the shutter speed to 1 / 250s and ISO 100.
