Buddhism was practically banned in Mongolia for seventy years, with only one monastery in Ulaanbaatar (Gandantegchinlen), and that was only so that the communist regime could show how it cared for the religious tradition.
After the revolution in the early 1990s, hundreds of Buddhist statues and monasteries were built in Mongolia. And the statue you see in the photo is one of them. It stands on a hill in the town of Darkhan and is quite different from the others with its rich colors.
